See how data and ML are helping farmers make smarter, more sustainable decisions
Read the AWS customer story to discover how Sencrop built a microclimate application using AWS, machine learning, and in-field sensor data to give farmers more accurate weather insights.
Farmers depend on accurate, localised weather intelligence to protect yields, manage resources, and improve sustainability. But reliable microclimate data can be difficult to access, especially when conditions vary field by field.
Sencrop, a smart agriculture startup based in France, set out to solve this challenge by building a microclimate application that gathers and analyses data from radar, weather forecasts, and nearly 40,000 in-field sensors. Built on AWS, the application helps farmers access precise climate and observational data, so they can make better decisions around irrigation, treatments, field activity, and sustainable farming practices.
Using services including Amazon EMR and Amazon Aurora, Sencrop processes data in near real time, stores 80 TB of data, and ingests 1.5 billion weather forecast data points daily. Its Sencrop Forecast feature uses machine learning to create accurate, hyperlocal forecasts for users.
The results show how data-driven applications can create measurable operational and environmental impact. In a representative sample of more than 1,000 farmers, 90% of vine and potato growers reported reduced chemical spray treatment frequency, 68% of farmers saved farm vehicle trips, 43% of farmers using Irricrop saved water, and 76% said Sencrop helped them with agro-environmental practices.
